I put this up for the time (this time) and great depth of the so-called subject of Postmodernism. Indeed for Judeo-Christianity, it is surely overall a negative supposition! A close and careful study will reveal this in my opinion. Here is both Modernity and Postmodernity, ‘the father and the son’. Surely the great outgrowth, in the negative sense of the Enlightenment! Note Spinoza’s work of pantheism. He was early a great student of course of Descartes. And he was excommunicated from the (his) Jewish synagogue (1656).

There are people often times who write me and somewhat complain that I use the ecclesiastical term “Father” for myself personally. When it surely appears I am not really a High Church Anglican per se, but much more of an Evangelical, and too Reformational and Reformed, Anglican. Well first, I used to be an Anglo-Catholic, years ago now, and of course I was raised Irish Roman Catholic, and took my first degree there, a BA in Catholic Philosophy. As too between and after my first tour as a Royal Marine, I was a Catholic Benedictine (English or Brit) in my mid 20′s, for a few years. But then of course I became an Anglican, and the rest is history. As I am 63 (64 this Fall) now. But, as semi-retired I still do (and almost daily) some hospital chaplain work, and there too many call me Father, as an Anglican “priest”. (Note I have written a few posts on this use), which as I have said, I see as much more of a “pastoral” moniker (noting, 1 Cor. 4: 14-15).

So some R. Catholic people of course object here, as too even some of my Anglican people, who see only the use of “presbyter”. But, I don’t hold this term of “Father” tightly, but yes I use it, and use it pastorally. So there ya have it!

“The force of the imperative can only be understood only in light of the relation of the indicative to the imperative. Sin does not have the dominion – this is the indicative. This indicative is not only expressly asserted in verse 14, it is implicit in all that the apostle has argued in the verses that precede verse 12. Let not sin reign – this is the imperative. And it flows from the indicative.. It is only because sin does not reign that it can be said, “Therefore let not sin reign”. In other words, the presupposition of the exhortation is not that sin reigns but the opposite, that it does not reign, and it is for that reason that the exhortation can have validity and appeal.” (John Murray, The Epistle to the Romans chapter 6: 12-33 pages 226-227, NIC On The New Testament, – Eerdmans, One Vol., 1968)

Quoting for The Apologetics Study Bible: “This is a difficult question, especially in the English language. Linguistically, anyone who uses the term “God” is basically saying the same thing: They are referring to the uncreated Creator of the universe. In this fashion, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, and all others are referring to the Lord of the universe when they use the term “God”.

With regard to Islam, the similarities of Allah and Jehovah are greater for two reasons: (1) Islam embraces monotheism, which means “one God”, just like Christianity and Judaism, and (2) Muhammad used many of the people cited in the Bible when he created the Quran, such as Noah (Surah 6: 84), Jacob (Surah 2: 132), and Jesus (Surah 3: 45-47).

The similarities end there however. Think of Islam as a form of “medieval Mormonism.” Like Mormonism, Islam is based on the faulty premise that the Bible’s description of God and Jesus Christ is incorrect. Like Mormonism, Islam teaches that both Christianity and Judaism are false religions, and that Islam through the Quran is the only true faith.

Ultimately, this is not an issue of vocabulary; it is an issue of definition. The Allah of the Quran is described and defined in a way that clearly shows Muhammad was not presenting the same God. The God of Islam is remote, and not intimate (Surah 112). Allah does not have a son (Surah 2: 116), is not a Trinity (Surah 5: 72), and does not love unconditionally (Surah 8: 53). In Islam, Jesus is simply a prophet, and emphatically is not the Son of God (Surah 5: 72), and the angel Gabriel is the Holy Spirit (Surah 2: 193).

Remember, when Muhammad was alive (A.D. 570-632), the Bible was already in its complete canonical form. This is not an issue of ignorance, Muhammad, living just over 700 miles south of Jerusalem, knew the Bible and rejected it. Instead, he created a system that changed the nature and attributes of God, but still used the name.

Indeed, these difference cover the entire theology of Christianity. In Islam, there are “angels” that are created from fire (called “jinn”, Surah 72), a Tree of Zaqqum in hell (Surah 3: 62-67), virgin servants in heaven (Surah 4:57). In fact, even the creation in Islam is corrupted. In Islam, Satan’s fall was due to his unwillingness to bow to Adam (Surah 2: 34).

In summation, one can state it thus: Islam rejects the fatherheart of God. The divinity of the Son, and the person of the Holy Spirit. You cannot change the nature of the God of the Bible without changing the “god” you are presenting. It is not the same God.” (Ergun Mehmet Caner, Liberty Theological Seminary ; Quoted from The Apologetics Study Bible, p. 1754 – Holman, 2007)

Indeed for St. Paul, “Christ Jesus” rules as Lord.. in His Resurrection, which always includes Christ’s exaltation to heavenly glory even now. The Resurrection of Christ was not to Paul a mere sample of the future resurrection of men. The exaltation was to a glory unique, which none could share. The Resurrection placed Christ alone in the absolute place at God’s right hand, in “the glory, on the Throne of Glory itself”! And to his mind all men will not share the same place and experience as Jesus Christ (both forensic and personal), and finally the Divinity of Christ is precisely the fact which demands and necessitates Resurrection! Simply no one has expressed more biblically and theologically than St. Paul the thought that Christ’s Resurrection was instrumental in His exaltation! Christ rules His Church by His Word… here is “spirit and truth”. Here Christ’s rule is a dominion of holy love, while He is the Good Shepherd. Redemption means the reconciliation of God as well as the dominion of God!

“The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” (Rev. 4: 10-11)
