NKJV Verse of the Day

Verse of the Day

Hebrews 11:1
1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Read Hebrews 11

*And always true faith is the gift of God, it is NOT “your” faith! (Eph. 2: 8)

  1. Thank you for this, Fr. Robert! I have always read Ephesians 2:8a backwards, putting the emphasis on Grace instead of faith for the 2:8b tie-in. [Ephesians 2:8-9 NASB] “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast…”

Paul is actually saying in these two verses, “God, by extending his grace to us (instead of dispensing immediate eternal judgment as we deserve), saves our soul through “his gift of faith” to us; not through our good deeds, as is our default attempt to “deserve” him.

I have always put the emphasis on Grace instead of “faith being his gift to us”: the definition of faith, of course – as you mentioned – being Hebrews 11:1, the only definition of faith in the entire Bible. I love that verse!

Thank you so much for this next piece of evidence in my study of Faith. Have a great day.

    Todd

    • Indeed Todd we “deserve” nothing, but God ‘In Christ’ has given us everything, but it all comes by God’s grace and and the gift of Faith, which ONLY God can give! And btw, God is NOT going to save everyone, but only “a remnant according to the election of grace.” (Rom. 11: 5)

    • Thanks again Todd to read and support somewhat this old Anglican Reformed Evangelical… Rock on mate! 🙂
