The Veracity of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

March 27, 2016

For those of us who believe in the historical reality of the Resurrection of Jesus the Christ, we know and believe He is alive, the verity of the Resurrection of Jesus is well established by the eyewitness accounts in the NT Scripture, as too the OT statements and prefigures. As also our own Christian faith and spiritual experience. that HE is a living Person who meets us by His Word and Spirit, John 4: 23–24!

But, we too must admit that the Four Gospel accounts all have different expressions and statements to the Resurrection of our Lord. Some of it is surely statements of and with figures of speech, in some aspect of hyperbole, i.e. earthquake, lighting, (Asterismos, Indicating the reality etc.) But not the loss of verity again! How can human language express such mystery, it cannot for the Resurrection of Christ is also from another and more eternal reality! But the reality of the Risen Christ who is Himself THE Resurrection and the Life, is as Paul wrote: “Now if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Jesus from the dead will give life also to your moral bodies through the dwelling of His Spirit in you.” (Romans 8: 11) But once again, this is a spiritual reality but one that ends for us in Resurrection also, and that of even our moral bodies, again in the end! But now in this life, this is all seen in faith. And too we must admit that in the early church only the Apostles and disciples-believers saw the Risen Christ, but note the 500! (1 Cor. 15: 5-6, with verses 7-8, etc.) The whole chapter of Paul’s 1st Corinthians 15 is meet here, noting especially verses 13-26!

Again, HE is Risen!

  1. Btw, too and again, let me recommend Michael Licona’s fine book: The Resurrection of Jesus, A New Historiographical Approach, (IVP, 718 pages). I don’t agree with every word or idea here, but in the main, it is a fine work!
