The NIV Study Bible, 2011 (Zondervan)

May 8, 2016

The Zondervan NIV Study Bible, 2011 Edition. I have been using my copy here, (Premium Ebony or Black leather). Massive with 2530 pages, with Topics (Colored), Index to Notes, Concordance and Color Maps.

When I first got a copy of the 2011 NIV, (in 2011) I read it early with the idea that the 1984 NIV Bible Translation was of course better! – I tend to like older things – but after reading it, it was not long before I saw the 2011 as the better Translation. Especially in the NT, and certainly in Paul’s Letter to the Romans. (See, Rom. 3: 25… “God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood – to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins beforehand unpunished.” NIV 2011) Myself, I hold to the position that the Death of Christ is the full “expiation” for sin. Expiation, is better than the word propitiation by-itself, as in the Text here Christ is literally the “Mercy-Seat”… or propitiatory cover – the cover on/of the ark on which the blood was sprinkled, which creates God’s Conciliation and Satisfaction, which GOD has given ‘In Christ’!

Anyway, I highly recommend the NIV 2011 Translation, and this NIV Study Bible 2011! The latter is of course not perfect, no Study Bible ever is, but it is a good update! Buy one, read and use it! Especially in these days of Gentile Apostasy, and as I believe the Eschatological-End, around National Israel!

Blessings In Christ, Fr. R.

*Btw, I think the 1st NIV Study Bible came out in 1985?

  1. I dug out my copy of the 1985 NIV Study Bible, Large Print (Burgundy, top grain leather, still has the box. I got it from Zondervan in the mail.) They sure don’t make them like this anymore, with such dark print! The NIV Study Bible, with Donald Burdick and Ronald Youngblood, came out from something of the American Reformed generally. And the Anglican Brit, Rev. Philip E. Hughes, also did some of the NT theological notes! He was living in America when he died (1990?) The general notes helped make the Study Bible!

    • And yes, I have also the TNIV -Today’s New International Version- Reference Bible, (2007 Premium Leather. Also still in the box, which says on the front: Renaissance Fine Leather, Premium, Hand-Crafted, Genuine Leather, black). This Bible was the run-up to the 2011 NIV. The American’s made fine Bibles over the years! Though that day appears to be sadly passing, as the desire and need for fine Bibles seems gone now? Though there are still some good and biblically literate Christians in the USA, thanks be to God! But they are getting smaller, as the British.
