ESV Verse of the Day

Verse of the Day
August 18
James 1:27
27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
Read James 1

*This of course has a Jewish flavor here in James, but to quote Vine on the Greek word Aspilos “unspotted” (KJV), “metaphorically, of keeping a commandment without alteration and fulfilment of it, 1 Tim. 6: 14 ; of the believer in regard to the world, James 1: 27, and free from all defilement in the sight of God, 2 Pet. 3: 14.” – The essence is refusing the corruption of the world. But of course only ‘In Christ’ can we begin to do this! Both Justification & Sanctification theologically, (Fr.R.)
