End Times: Covenant Theology & Biblical Prophecy, by Rev. Jack Brooks.

September 8, 2016

This closes towards the PD or Progressive Dispensationalism, of which Jack Brooks also believes and has written on.

*And yes, I am generally a Progressive Dispensationalist myself!

  1. Not a bad article, good summation of ideas… I still need to get those books you mentioned so I can see the actual reasoning from Scripture that makes one come to the conclusion this article says you should 😉

    • Yes, It took me sometime to get away from both the A-Mill and then Post-Mill, but living and teaching in Israel in the 90’s after being in Gulf War 1 was a big wake-up call for me! The Progressive Dispensational with the Historic Pre-Mill, and of course the Post-Trib on the Rapture IS IT for me. The best of both worlds spiritual and literal! But we must get there on our own mental terms for sure. But how can we forget the Jewish Prophets? We cannot! And NO “supersessionism” for me!

  2. Btw, N.T. Wright has to be about the worst theolog to come up the pike in a long time (and an Anglican to boot)! He is of course brilliant, but brilliance is surely NOT faithfulness! And note I see a form of the Historic Pre-Mill that is surely dispensational friendly, and especially in the PD. WE must get Biblical Theology OUT of the Ivory High Tower, and literal Israel, i.e. National Israel helps this! Indeed WE are seeing things in the West WE have never seen! Gentile Apostasy in the historical church’s is so real!

  3. Just a point, but a few good men, like George Eldon Ladd, Francis Schaeffer, James Montgomery Boice, and one of my favorites: Gordon Clark were all Premillennialists! Note an earlier great, John Gill was Historical Pre-Mill also.

Btw, a reading and study of Ireneaus who was Pre-Mill is also a must! Let me recommend Eric Osborn’s now classic book: Irenaeus of Lyons, (2001) now in paperback, (Cambridge).

  4. And to somewhat conclude, I will die in the Faith of a Biblical Premillennialism! This has become so central hermeneutically and exegetically for me, with the place of National, biblical, covenantal & theological “Israel”! See, Rom. 9: 1-5 ; 1 Cor. 10: 32! Indeed Jesus,Yeshua is the King of Israel! The Charge over His head for which HE died!

  5. One last thought, but Reformed Theology have generally lost the ball here on Eschatology, as too Hermeneutics therein! If we lose National Israel, we really lose the best and edge of the Jewish Prophets! But of course that’s the way I see it, and since about 1993!

I am of course Reformed on the Doctrines of Grace (though more a Neo-Calvinist therein). But the doctrines and teaching of God’s Glory surely include National Israel! (Eph. 2: 12-22)

    • The Scripture that was the great deciding factor for me was first the Prophet Zechariah, and especially chapters 12-13 and 14! And then the Prophet Isaiah and chapters 40:12 thru 66: 24!

  6. *This was all written on the fly (up and down, at the hospital). So it is not fully connected! But the challenge is on! 😉 And of course the challenge is not mine but Holy Scripture! “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.” Micah 5:2 (ESV)

    Off to lunch! 🙂
