Narrow Gate verses the Wide Gate

July 15, 2017

Matthew 7:13-14 English Standard Version Anglicised (ESVUK)
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Footnotes:
Matthew 7:13 Some manuscripts For the way is wide and easy (Of course we have hyperbole here, meant to express the depth and effect here of the truth and nature of the Person of Christ, and His demands morally & spiritually!)

*What is the difference of this “narrow” verses “wide” Gate? And what Gate have you chosen? The great clue here is that this so-called Gate is a Person!  And of course this Person is Jesus/Yeshua, a masculine name, Who is/was Jewish and is the Messiah & the Christ (Anointed) of God. We must come to know His Person & Work, i.e. The Redeemer & His Redemption!

27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Indeed Jesus as the Christ, Lord, Savior & Redeemer is always that narrow gate and place in this fallen, broken, sinful world!  But John 3:16 still speaks that “whosoever believes” …

  1. Btw, yes I am a neo-Calvinist! Noting Matthew 11: 27, has Jesus revealed Himself to you? Salvation is always and only the Lord’s to give! WE are but passive receivers ‘In Christ’! All the work and glory is the Lord’s! 🙂

  2. The true Christian life is not really hard, as it is “exclusive” and always simply/profoundly ‘In Christ’! HE Is Worthy!
